Alumni feature in new book: ‘Designing Diagrams’

Work by four Faculty of Design alumni – Ian Carr, Valentina D’Efilippo, Piero Zagami and Kyung Hwa Lee – is featured in international design book, ‘Designing Diagrams‘.

The book, an essential resource for students and designers, is a guide to the world of diagrammatic presentation of facts, figures, thoughts, processes and relations.

In the epilogue, the author, Jan Guaguin, comments: “Some design schools have good courses; some touch the subject only superficially, and some do not treat information design at all. In the ‘Designer’s Gallery’ you will find work done by students who are aiming for an MA degree in the subject. This is a hopeful sign for the future.”

Below is some of the work featured in the book. Take a peek.

Pictured above is Piero Zagami’s self-initiated project entitled, ‘UNSC/R – Mapping the United Nations Resolutions’ completed on the MA Graphic Design at LCC.

Featured on page 184 – 185 of the Design Gallery is Ian Carr’s ‘Noise Matrix,’ this forms part of his ‘Networks at Heathrow Airport’ series completed on the Postgraduate Certificate Design for Visual Communication at LCC.

Valetina D’Efilippo’s ‘Visualising Gender Stereotypes’ project produced in 2007 on the Postgraduate Diploma Design for Visual Communication can be viewed on pages 186 and 187.

Featured above is Kyung Hwa Lee’s ‘Dreams’ project. The book was produced on the  BA (Hons) Graphic & Media Design (Information Design pathway) at LCC and explores the typical stages of sleep and why we dream.
