New LCC Gallery opens with live performance from D-Fuse

London based arts collective D-Fuse this week launched LCC’s brand new gallery space with two performances of ‘Latitude’ – a stunning 45 minute audio visual installation inspired by the notion of drifting through the urban land and soundscapes of China’s Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chongqing. See footage below.

The evening performance was rounded off with a panel discussion ‘Beyond Cinema: The Future of Live Cinema’ which explored the potential for artists working with technology to change and mould the city. The panel, led by LCC’s Dean of Media Julian Rodriguez, also debated the potential of the new LCC Gallery in showcasing the important role contemporary art and design have to play in the modern world; as well as how the gallery can best serve students, staff and the public at large. Panellists were: Shane Walter of onedotzero, Dr Duncan White of Central Saint Martins, Michael Faulkner of D-Fuse, Yomi Ayeni of Expanding Universe, and Melissa Bliss of Living Cinema.

The event is the first in a series of upcoming exhibitions, performances and panels under the mantle ‘Gallery Provocations’ that will explore contemporary art and design through an innovative cross-media programme at the new LCC Gallery. Next week the new gallery space will host Grey to Green, a talk by the Commission for Architecture and the Build Environment (CABE) to explore how green infrastructure could transform the quality and performance of our towns and cities.

If you have any ideas about future events for the new LCC Gallery please post them below. Whatever your thoughts, whether its about guest curators, themes, subject areas, types of work or types of media, we want to hear them.

I didn’t even know this new space existed. Perhaps I am too swamped with work to have noticed any posters/advertising for it, but I think the LCC could do lots more to communicate to the students about these new and exciting goings on.

I’m genuinely gutted I missed this event.
